Bring Talmud Study to Life.

This course applies the legal theories and textual skills from our Talmud 1 and 2 courses to contemporary halakhic questions related to the role of gender in Jewish law. All too often, communal dialogue about contemporary religious and societal questions can feel like a battleground of competing biases, and so we've designed this course to facilitate critical and nuanced thinking around Talmudic concepts and halakhic legal practice to help students understand how Jewish tradition relates to the modern world.

With a focus on the categories of mitzvot aseh she-hazman grama (time bound commandments), the obligation of women in prayer and megillah reading, as well as Rabbinic ordination, this course applies concepts learned in LaHaV's Talmud 1 and 2 courses in order to deepen dialogue and understanding of contemporary issues through the lens of Jewish tradition.
